Evaluation

A high-quality evaluation is essential to the therapy process. Results from the evaluation drive the initial treatment plan. My goal is always to help the client feel comfortable quickly in order to assess communication skills that are consistent with what is observed in their communities.

An evaluation typically includes interviews/questionnaires, informal observations, and administration of standardized assessments. Evaluations can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

You will receive a written report that is easy to understand complete with formal assessment results, clinical analyses, recommendations, and goals for therapy.

With younger children, we will work together to determine if it is most appropriate for parents to stay close by during the evaluation, or if it would be best to allow the child to work one on one with me.

Individual Therapy

Based on the results of the evaluation, we will develop an individualized therapy plan. I love to celebrate each client's individuality in a way that increases engagement and progress. I am humbled by the opportunity to be a part of your community.

Therapy will likely include instructional activities, high numbers of trials to practice skills, opportunities for practical use of skills, parent education/collaboration, and realistic ideas for at-home practice of newly acquired skills. In addition, I value positive collaboration with the client's entire community (e.g. other providers, teachers, family members, etc.).

Though I can provide ideas regarding length of therapy, each individual's needs will vary. I begin to think about what I can do to discontinue services as quickly as possible from our very first meeting. My promise to you is service that is unmatched in value.

Group Therapy

Many individuals targeting communication skills benefit from the contexts of groups. Feedback that can be provided immediately from one's peers within a well-supported group is valuable.

Let's get creative! Once groups have been formed and established, we can take our groups out into the community to practice skills (e.g. restaurants, presentations, volunteer events, and anything you can think of!).

All group members will provide consent for therapeutic experiences taking place in a group and out in the community.
